Antique Shock Therapy Quack Medical Device

This strange looking piece of vintage tech is an Antique Shock Therapy Quack Medical Device.

Shock Therapy was used extensively in Victorian and Edwardian times as a Quack cure, or at least as a therapeutic device, for a multitude of complaints and illnesses. We think this device dates to the Edwardian period: early 20th Century.

This particular device is portable, being quite small. It would have been powered from a 3 volt battery. It is being sold as a collectible device only and is not supplied with a battery.

The wood outer box and components are in pretty good condition with scratches, scuffs, and blemishes commensurate with age and use. There is a piece of wood missing from the outer box, which I think we have somewhere... There may be other items missing as I have no idea how it was actually used.

It would look lovely all polished but, since people prefer the patina, we have left it in original condition.
